William (Bill) Papaleo has been painting and working with light, color and atmosphere for more than four decades. He first started with Henry Henche at the Cape school of Art and Robert Beverly Hale at the Art Students League, New York. And, at Sindin Galleries in New York, 1994 he was presented with a group of emerging artists to show with Picasso, Matisse and Diego Rivera. An American artist who has lived and worked in Italy since the mid-1980's, Bill's paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries across Europe and the United States, earning him various awards in international and juried shows. After exhibiting in a juried show at the IAMLA Museum in Los Angeles, one of Bill's paintings remains in their permanent collection, and his drawings for a public Sculpture in Waterbury Connecticut are in the permanent collection of the Mattatuck Museum in Connecticut. In Santa Monica, California at the MRT he presented a series of large landscapes for the preservation of the Great Native American Trail.
In the past decade, in Italy, Bill has exhibited paintings in Naples and Salerno as a part of large exhibitions dedicated to art and immigration. And, In 2016 at the Municipio Castle in Naples Italy he presented a retrospective show and has exhibited with the Museo Citta’ Creativa in Salerno. In the United States, Bill's works have been at the La Lupa Italian Arts foundation in Los Angeles and in New York, at a retrospective at the Westchester Italian Cultural Center (2015) and at the John D. Calandra Institute in 2017. More recent exhibitions include solo exhibitions in the United States in 2023-2025 include at the Rotunda Gallery, New Rochelle City Hall as part of the New Rochelle Council on the Arts annual ArtsFest in 2023; at the Idea Kitchen in Larchmont, NY, in 2024; at the Will o the Wisp Gallery at Truro Center at Castle Hill in Massachusetts and at LAHA gallery in Wellfleet on Cape Cod in 2024/2025. And in Italy at City Hall in Vietri, Italy, and at Botteghelle in Salerno, Italy in 2024. Additionally in 2025, Bill had works at a group show at the Andre Derain Museum in Paris, France and as part of a two person show at Planet Rooth studios in Palm Springs, California.
Bill continues to conduct art workshops for students in Italy and the USA; and remains a resident artist with the Truro Center at Castle Hill and with Key to the Castle Workshop, LLC.
